Serving salsa since ’91

A family owned Windsor restaurant has survived the ups and downs of the economy for more than two decades and is moving to a new location.
Acapulco Delight has been serving Windsorites with home-made, Latin dishes from Mexico. After opening in 1991, Acapulco was an entertainment night club that was aimed at older Latin Hispanic crowds, and it frequently had bands from Mexico come to play. Throughout the years, by word-of-mouth Acapulco changed from being an older Latino dance bar that served food, to a full time Mexican restaurant that serves after hours.
Chile is the owner and chef of the restaurant. She has been cooking in Acapulco’s since it opened, and said they are successful because of their food.
“Our food is not frozen or fast food. It is prepared every day home made,” said Chile. “We make the prices to eat affordable and now we get a lot of university students.”
This is the third time the restaurant had its location changed. It is moving to 481 Pelissier St. and they expect to have an increase in sales and new customers because of higher foot traffic in the area. They also plan to open during the day to attract a lunch clientele.
“We hope the free downtown Wi-Fi attracts the college kids and business people. Moving to a new location that will not be too far from the last will be good for our old customers,” Kevin Ham Chi, who serves at the restaurant, said. “People also come back because we treat our customers like friends,” said Ham Chi.
Sara Long who has been dinning in with her friends and ordering take out with her husband, said she has been enjoying Acapulco’s for more than five years and cannot wait for the new location to open.
“I love Acapulco’s food for a long time and the people are very nice there,” she said “ I think the new establishment will be a good new area, Pelissier needs a business that has a lot of people coming on a steady basis”The new location on Pelissier Street is expected to open in April.
