All Saints’ Anglican Church in Windsor is organizing a shoe box campaign for remote, First Nations people in northern Canada, in Kashechewan and Attiwapiskat.

The shoe box champion is organized by I Love First Peoples. The main purpose of it is to promote education in remote reserves and promote the idea of reconciliation between First Nation people and the rest of Canada.

“We have seen the error of our ways and that wasn’t the right thing to be doing,” said Robert Clifford, the reverend at All Saints’ Anglican Church.

“We have apologized for and made some monetary restitution for that,” said Clifford. “Now there’s the matter of just human relationships because we were a party to it. We need to make up for that. This is an attempt to be a part of making up for it.”

I Love First Peoples Foundation is the group the All Saints’ Anglican Church partnered with. They bring the shoeboxes with them when they go into these remote communities.

These groups can help reclaim languages that the Aboriginal peoples have lost, as well as support art and sporting activities.

The church is the drop off centre for people from the general public to bring in their packed shoeboxes.

Shoe boxes can also be dropped off at City Hall Square in Windsor.
