Shoppers Drug Mart delays Christmas music

As of Nov. 2 Shoppers Drug Mart across Canada will no longer play Christmas music.
Due to a number of complaints the company has decided to hold off on Christmas music “until further notice.”
In a Facebook post, Shoppers stated they “take customer feedback to heart, and it does lead to change.”
As of today, the post has had 5,718 comments and complaints from customers. One said “It is the right thing to do ….. Not until after we remember our Vets properly on November 11th! Thanks for the change.” Many others agreed it seems disrespectful to start advertising Christmas before celebrating all the fallen soldiers on Remembrance Day.
Stephanie McGrayne, 36, is a stay-at-home mom that often shops at Shoppers.
“I feel that it is wrong to suspend Christmas music (until) after Remembrance Day,” she said. “Christmas music has always been a part of our society and culture. It makes people feel good and warm and look forward to the Christmas season.”
In a press release from the Windsor Star, Shoppers vice president Tammy Smitham told the Star that the Christmas music will be back – just closer to “the big day.” Smitham also stated the Facebook page has helped a lot of shoppers give the company feedback, through thoughts and opinions.
