Police are investigating a residence on Riverside Drive after shots were fired Sept. 3.

Windsor Police Services was called to 1225 Riverside Dr. W. around 11:15 p.m.  after several loud noises were heard outside the building.

WPS confirmed the presence of gunfire in the area and in a press release said two bullet holes were found in the windows of a west-facing unit on the ground floor.

Faith Nader, a resident of the building, said she heard the shots around 10:45 p.m. She said she recognized the noises as gunshots from her former education in Police Foundations and her training while acquiring her gun license.

“I was watching T.V. when I heard four gunshots,” said Nader. “The first one was hesitant, the other three went in sequence.”

Nader said she noticed a suspicious person outside the building under the billboards located next to the residence.

“The way he was standing, it was as if he was like a macho stance: feet apart, legs apart, he looked very angry, he looked aggressive,” Nader said  “I caught him in time before he ran off. He ran off really scared as if someone was behind him, as if he was about to get caught and he was running west towards Riverside.”

Joshua Vone, another resident of the building, said he thought he heard someone celebrating.

“At first I thought the gunshots were over where the Gateway Public Park is and I thought someone was just celebrating with their gun, shooting in the air or something until I came down and saw the bullet holes in the window,” said Vone. “That’s when it really hit me that a couple inches higher it would’ve hit my bedroom.”

Police said the resident who lived in the unit fired on was not home at the time.

“When our emergency services unit went inside they did a clearing of the unit, looking for potential victims of the shooting and ensuring everybody is safe,” said Matt D’Asti, public information officer for the WPS. “There is definitely somebody who lives there, however we haven’t been able to locate that person yet.”

WPS asks anyone with information about the incident to please call (519) 255-6700 ext. 4830 or anonymously to CrimeStoppers at (519) 258-8477.
