Early Thursday morning at 7:20 a.m., a single motor vehicle accident caused Riverside Dr. W. to be closed for several hours.

The driver was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and there were no passengers in the vehicle. The accident occurred after the vehicle hit a side guardrail while driving over a small bridge located on Riverside Drive near Crawford Avenue.

Rhonda Linton, a Windsor resident, spoke to reporters at the scene. She called the City of Windsor that very morning, saying a sign needed to be put in place.

“People come up this bridge, there’s often traffic stopped. You can’t see it until you get over onto the top of the bridge and there’s not enough time to stop,” said Linton.

The city then told her that her request could not be taken by phone or electronically, and could only be submitted by mailing a written request. She has called the city six times in total and each time she has received the same answer.

“I believe this stops the people from the city of Windsor from formally complaining,” said Linton.

Police spoke to witnesses at the scene but say the accident is still under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the accident is asked to call Constable Andrew Drouillard at the Windsor Police Service.

Accident that occurred on Riverside Drive the morning of Thursday, Nov. 30, 2018.
