SIU investigating fatal officer-involved shooting

Windsor Police is currently investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred in the area of Elliot St East and Goyeau Ave. 

Officers responded to the area around 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 6 for reports of a male with a weapon. Police arrived on scene and engaged with the suspect. Police had an altercation with the suspect which led to officers firing their weapons.  

The suspect was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Later on that day Special Investigations Unit confirmed the suspect had died.  

Once SIU was notified, officers couldn’t comment further on the incident.  

The area was shut down for several hours. The area reopened the next day.
