Soldiers awarded the Jubilee Medal brief
by Hailey Trealout
The Essex & Kent Scottish awarded soldiers with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal Nov. 13 at the Major F.A. Tilston V.C. Armoury.
The Jubilee is a symbol of how Canada evolved under Queen Elizabeth II’s rein. The medal itself gives the military an opportunity to identify those who have dedicated their lives to family, community and country. A special presentation of the Commander of 31 brigade coin was also presented to identify military significance for leadership and support to others.
The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal was presented to 16 recipients by MPs Brian Masse and Joe Comartin, Col. Brock A. Millman, Hon. Col. Hardy Wheeler and Lt.-Col. Morris Brause.
One of the members of the audience was 27-year-old Afghanistan veteran, Michael Farrah. He said the ceremony has a lot of meaning and went well.
“Like the commander said, certain aspects of the military aren’t recognized by medals,” said Farrah. “So when an opportunity like this arrives, it’s good to get people that get some recognition for stuff that otherwise wouldn’t be.”
