At least one Canadian is among the victims of the mob surge that left more than 150 people dead in Seoul, South Korea over the weekend.

South Korea’s president said there will be a national mourning period starting today until the resolution of the incident and the government will make it a priority to handle the incident and follow-up measures.

President Yoon said the government will order the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and other related ministries to conduct urgent reviews of not just Halloween events but other regional festivals and thoroughly manage them in an orderly and safe manner.

The tragedy shocked the Korean community in Canada and drew thoughts and prayers from leaders around the world.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau used Twitter to offer his “deepest condolences” to the people of South Korea, wishing for a “fast and full recovery to those who were injured.”
