Spitfires winning streak comes to a stop
The Windsor Spitfires lost their seven-game winning streak in the Ontario Hockey League to the Saginaw Spirit at the WFCU Centre Sunday evening.
The Spitfires initially had a 6-3 lead of 6-3 but lost the match with a score of 7-6 in overtime. Saginaw pulled the game to overtime after scoring three goals in the final 80 seconds of regulation. The game tying goal from Damien Giroux came in with only 1.6 seconds left in the third period.
“I am frustrated. I think we deserve better,” said Luke Boka, Spitfires captain while talking about their loss on Twitter.
“It’s tough obviously to end a winning streak like that,” said forward Angle Tyler.
Before the match began, the Spitfires held a special ceremony to remember veterans for Remembrance Day.
Spitfires have played the fewest games in the series but are tied for first position with the Spirits and Flint Firebirds at 24 points.
The Spitfires will face the Erie Otters on Friday at 7 p.m. and will travel to St. Catherine’s to play opposite the Niagara Icedogs on Saturday.
