The Windsor Spitfires had a rough weekend where they dropped all three games and earned only one point in their push for the playoffs.

Windsor started off their weekend with a 5-2 loss to the London Knights. Under normal circumstances, keeping the best team in the Ontario Hockey League close would be a moral victory but with only a handful of games left in their season Windsor needs to win games.

Windsor came out slow to start the first period going down by two goals. Windsor battled back to tie the game after two periods but with only eight forwards on the bench they were unable to muster up any offence in the third period.

“As a team we have to come out ready to play every game and try to play smart defensively,” said Spits forward Ben Johnson.

Windsor then travelled to Erie for a date with the Otters. Windsor was unable to hold on to a 4-2 lead going into the third period and eventually fell in overtime, picking up their only point of the three-game set.

Their final game of the weekend was on the road in Niagara against the IceDogs. Windsor’s loss was their sixth straight on the road. Despite scoring four goals for the second straight game their defence struggled, allowing nine to the IceDogs.

Windsor now sits eight points back of a playoff spot in the OHL’s Western Conference.

“It’s tough but we’re not going to quit, we’re not going to whine about it,” said Ebert. “We’re not going to stop until we’re mathematically out and even when we are were going to still give 100 per cent. We still have hope.”
