Spits fall to Knights

Time is quickly running out on the Windsor Spitfires season.
The Spits suffered a 5-2 loss at the hands of the London Knights at the WFCU Centre Feb. 28.
Windsor got off to a slow start to the game finding themselves down 2-0 while only managing three shots on goal in the first period.
“As a team we have to come out ready to play every game and try to play smart defensively,” said Spits forward Ben Johnson. “First periods have been bad for us and in the next couple games we have to try to fix that.”
Windsor came out strong in the second period with a goal from Johnson midway through the period.
Just under five minutes later forward Kerby Rychel capped off Windsor’s scoring with a deflection over the glove of Knights goalie Anthony Stolarz.
“We’re going the third tied 2-2 and we had some pretty good momentum going in,” said Spits defenceman Nick Ebert
That momentum came to a screeching halt when London forward Alex Broadhurst scored on the opening shift of the third period.
“We come out, we give up a goal right away and now were playing catch up again,” said Windsor head coach Bob Boughner.
Windsor was unable to muster up much offensive pressure and was could not capitalize on two power play opportunities.
“We had a great power play, Stolarz made a big save there, I thought that was probably the difference,” said Boughner.
With seven games remaining in the regular season the Spits sit nine points back of a playoff spot. Windsor will go into their weekend road trip with only 14 skaters. However the tired and depleted line up isn’t ready to give up just yet.
“It’s tough but we’re not going to quit, we’re not going to whine about it,” said Ebert. “We’re not going to stop until we’re mathematically out and even when we are were going to still give 100 per cent. We still have hope.”
