The Windsor Spitfires took another step backwards against the Peterborough Petes Jan. 31 at the WFCU Centre.
The Spits were upset 7-5 by the Petes and have now lost three of their last four games.
Defenceman Nick Ebert opened the scoring for the Spits with a blast from the top of the right circle. That lead was short-lived as the Petes scored four consecutive goals, including one from former Spit Michael Clarke.
Windsor’s defence has fallen apart of late allowing 2 goals in the last four games.
“Our whole D-zone is off right now,” said Spits forward Brady Vail. “Overall our offence is there, we need to eliminate the chances that the other team is getting and keep the score a lot lower.”

Windsor and Peterborough exchanged goals early in the second period with goals from Kerby Rychel and Stephen Nosad respectively.
Windsor staged a late second period comeback sparked by a bone jarring hit by Vail on Nelson Armstrong. Petes Captain Steven Trojanovic took exception to the hit and dropped the gloves with Vail.
Spits forward Remy Giftopoulos buried a rebound on the ensuing powerplay. After Vail scored to get within one goal Ben Johnson tied the game for the Spitfires with just 22 seconds left in the period.
The Spits comeback bid was denied when Clarke scored the game winner with his second goal of the game.
“Just gotta put this one behind us. It stings right now but tomorrows a new day,” said Vail.
The Spitfires are on the road tonight taking on the Guelph Storm.
“To make playoffs we’re going to have a lot better defensive game,” said Vail. “We have a big weekend coming up. Hopefully we can get some points going into next week.”
