Members of the Windsor Spitfires were on-hand at Dirty Jersey’s on Tecumseh Road Sept. 17.

Rookie goaltender Jordan DeKort showed diners to their seats, while alternate-captains Patrick Sieloff, Kerby Rychel and Brady Vail helped the service staff deliver food. Also taking part was Ben Johnson, a veteran of the waiting game who helped with a similar event at the Kelsey’s restaurant near Manning and Tecumseh last season.

Sieloff, who joined the Spitfires in May after they acquired his playing rights in a November trade with the Soo Greyhounds, has been getting involved in the Windsor community.

“It’s been good. This is my second or third player appearance,” Sieloff said. “It’s been good to see the fans who come watch us at each and every home game.”

Rob Miller, 35, has owned Dirty Jersey’s since it opened eight years ago. He said this was the first time he had Spitfires serving at his restaurant. Miller said half of all food sales from Sept. 17 between 6 pm and 8 pm would go to Knobby’s Kids, a local charity named after the late Robert Knudsen. In addition, Spitfires paraphernalia and other items were raffled off with the proceeds going to the charity.

“It’s for a great cause,” Miller said. “I think they’re looking to buy tickets for 300 kids for the season opener.”

Miller said he was hoping to raise $1,000. He surpassed that by raising closer to $1,200. In addition to sending 300 youngsters to the Spitfires home opener Sept. 20 against the Owen Sound Attack, they will be outfitting them with new jerseys.
