The Windsor Spitfires have kicked off their regular season on Sept. 21. The Spitfires are the defending Memorial Cup Champions, so some pressure does ride their wagon. They started the season with a 3-1 victory against the Saginaw Spirit. The victory saw Spitfire’s goaltender, Michael DiPietro, make 26 saves. The Spitfires will travel to London to take on the London Knights, on Sept. 22.

Many local baseball fans will not be heading into October happy. Both the Detroit Tigers and Toronto Blue Jays sit well out of range of the last Wild Card positions. The Tigers sit 17 games back of the final spot, making a miracle impossible. However, the Blue Jays sit only eight games back. With the season coming to a close, it seems unlikely that the Jays will pull through, but hope is still alive in Toronto.

Speaking of Toronto, the Maple Leafs will be getting their regular season underway on Oct. 4 in Winnipeg against the Jets. The Leafs will have their home opener hosting the New York Rangers on Oct. 7. This will be the last season under the Air Canada Center name, in the summer of 2018 the arena will be renamed The Scotiabank Arena. On the subject of change, the Detroit Red Wings will host the Minnesota Wild on Oct. 5. This game will be the first regular season game played at Little Caesars Arena.

While many Red Wing fans are excited for the new arena, some are anticipating a lackluster season. All is not tainted in Detroit as the Lions have roared and soared in the first couple in weeks of the football season. The Lions are currently 2-0 and are looking good to start off the year. Up next for the Lions is a matchup with the Falcons, hosting Atlanta on Sunday, Sept. 24.

That is all for now, keep a look out for future roundups each week.
