SRC’s election campaign changes
Candidates in the Student Representative Council (SRC) election at St. Clair College are campaigning differently this year.
This year, all election campaigning is happening virtually following a ban on in-person campaigns. All the candidates are allowed to use their own social media. The SRC also uploaded campaign videos of the candidates in their official YouTube channel.
Christian Seguin is the vice president of student affairs at the St. Clair College SRC.
“It is a rule that has forbidden posters and campaign on campus,” said Seguin. “We are doing our best to stay safe and still convey our messages through social media.”
Over 14,000 students are eligible to vote this year.
Shubham Sharma, a director at the St. Clair College with SRC.
He said he can’t interact directly with students, and that is the only drawback.
“We can’t share any posters to promote ourselves, we are only allowed to share a poster which is approved by SRC,” said Sharma. “We can go to classes if co-ordinators allow us, otherwise we can request them to share our campaign video’s link to students.”
SRC’s election will begin on March 1 on Blackboard.
