SSAA hosts last open hockey night of the season

The Saints Student Athletic Association (SSAA) ended their season of open hockey nights with a bang, hosting a skills competition on Monday March 4.
Several St. Clair students took part in a fastest skater challenge, an accuracy shooting challenge and an elimination-style shootout competition before getting back to regularly scheduled programming with a good old-fashioned hockey game.
The winners of each event were rewarded with a St. Clair College hockey jersey from when the school had a hockey team.
These open hockey nights have been running since October 23 and gave St. Clair students a way to enjoy the game of hockey without having to play competitively. The event seemed to be a big hit amongst the participants.
“My favourite part is just coming out here, getting to know some good guys, still stay active,” said Liam Fowkes, PSI student at St. Clair. “We’re lucky we can do what we love at our age especially.”
The SSAA hosts a variety of open sports nights including basketball, badminton, soccer and flag football.
The organization believes these events are important for the student community because it gives students a chance to casually enjoy their favourite sports and get involved in St. Clair activities outside of the classroom.
“People are just coming out here to have a good time outside of just their classes,” said Eric Dominguez, SSAA president. “We’re trying to do some unique things that you don’t see at any other intramurals.”
Open hockey nights may be over for the semester, but there are still many other open sports nights to come.
