St. Clair College electives fill up fast
by Max de Liberato
The St. Clair College winter semester is underway after a Christmas break that had students scrambling to get their first choice electives.
There are 73 courses requiring a general elective according to the St. Clair College website. Students are required to take these electives in order to diversify their education, but with 73 classes of students all needing electives, some are left out of the course they desire to take.
“It kind of sucks,” said Gilberto Hernandez, a St. Clair College student. “My first year I was kind of new to the college so I wasn’t aware of the process of taking electives or how to choose your electives so I was a little late.”
Hernandez is one example of a student left out in the cold when it comes to electives, but he was still happy with the ones he was able to get himself slotted into.
“It is important to pick your elective early because it is important to get into a class or online class that you most enjoy,” said Hernandez. “If you’re in a class that you don’t like, it’s not going to be a good time, your grades won’t be too well and it’s just better, and you just have so much time to look over the course information and details.”
St. Clair College allows students to both apply for their electives online on the My St. Clair section of its website or in person at the registrar’s office.
