St. Clair College MediaPlex Open House
By Travis Conant
What better way to introduce spring than a college open house dedicated to you and your future career plans? St. Clair College held its annual spring open house March 23 for all campuses including the St. Clair College MediaPlex.
The MediaPlex has been around since June 24, 2010, following a $5 million grant given to St. Clair College from the Federal Government. The state of the art facility is dedicated to education in Journalism, Media Convergence, Public Relations and other programs. This is one of three facilities to have the revolutionary technology that has led to one of the largest success rates for graduates looking for a job in any of the fields above. Of the three facilities it is the only one in Canada, the other facilities are in South Carolina and Germany.
Since its grand opening, the MediaPlex has held open houses twice a year, one in the fall and one in the spring. This is used to showcase what students in each program learn, accomplish and take from the program.
Public Relations Coordinator, Rebecca Wright, said the open house is a great way for teachers and future students coming into the program to connect to the program on a one to one basis.
“Coming into the MediaPlex a lot of them have gone to the main campus and so they’ve seen that campus, they’ve maybe learned about those programs up at main campus but the MediaPlex is a much different feel,” said Wright.
Wright also said the open house is a great way to show future students around and teach them about what the MediaPlex programs are going to be teaching the students and gives them insight into the industry, into the program and what the students are going to be doing here.
Sierra Ross was one of the open house attendees. Ross is a third year media communications student at Brock University and will be attending the Media Convergence program in the fall.
“I decided I didn’t want to do my fourth year at Brock because it was not hands on and that’s what I wanted. I looked at programs and this seemed to be the best for hands on and getting everything like a rounded education,” said Ross.
Ross also said she has learned a lot from the open house.
“I’m really glad I made the trip here,” said Ross. “I got to talk to some people who can get me some contacts and made me realize I’m really going to get that rounded education and make me have a lot of knowledge in media converge so I can do anything in whatever job that I want.”
The open house is not the only way you can view the campuses. If you are interested in seeing what the programs are all about you can book your own personal tours at www.stclaircollege.ca or call 519-972-2760.
