Candidates running in Ward 3 have made their message clear in advance of the upcoming municipal election.

More than 60 people attended the Ward 3 candidates meeting at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts on Tuesday, Oct. 14. John Fairley, host of TVCogeco’s Face to Face, hosted the meeting with Madka Ghebreslassie as the moderator. During the two hour session, questions were sent from Windsor residents and posed to the candidates.  Rino Bortolin, Gabe Maggio and Caroline Postma presided. Claude Reno, however was a no show. The candidates had their own campaign tables set up for the event. Downtown issues were discussed, along with west end problems and the community within the ward. Caroline Postma made it clear that security was her main concern for Ward 3.

“I would like to see more community-based policing,” Postma said. “It’s always great to put a face to the service and I’m a true believer in that.”

In the middle of the meeting, the candidates indicated which of the mayoral candidates they were supporting. With Postma supporting Drew Dilkens and Bortolin saying he was torn between two candidates, Gabe Maggio said that he was supporting John Millson.

“He’s got the experience to run this city,” said Maggio. Maggio said Millson knew how to get the city out of recession during his first term as mayor.

Following the two-hour debate the candidates were open to a meet and greet with ward residents. Only one of the four candidates will be elected as Ward 3 councilor after the Oct. 27 muncipal election.
