Staying outdoors to show support for the homeless
“We work together to end homelessness.”
That’s the message of the Windsor Residence for Young Men, also known as the WRYM.
The annual fundraising event “The Coldest Night of the Year” is coming. The WRYM will stay outside 14 hours at the facility’s parking lot at 1350 St. Luke Road in Windsor from Friday, Feb. 22 at 5:00 p.m. until the next morning at 7:00 a.m. They want to bring awareness to homeless people and raise money to help them.
WRYM is a charitable organization. It offers supportive functional family, individual counselling and teaches basic life skills to help men aged between 16 and 24 years build their new lives.
The WRYM’s volunteer Executive Director, Greg Goulin, will be spending his 70th birthday at the event.
He said people are coming out who are raising funds to do this sponsorship while they get an idea what it’s like to be homeless and how depressing it can be.
“People can go home anytime, but homeless people really have nothing to look forward,” Goulin said. “It’s more than meaningful for homeless people. It’s tragic and demoralizing.”
