Streetcar 351 gives students a ride into history
The desire to learn about a streetcar is being addressed in the first of three student workshops.
On Oct. 17, Students from West Gate Public school attended the first of three educational workshops.
According to, Fouada Hamzeh a science teacher with the region’s public school board, the students rotated through a number of different education stations in the gymnasium. The science stations provided lessons on energy and the history station allowed students to learn more about the Streetcar’s past.
Streetcar 351 was originally built in Trenton N.J. in 1919 and operated in Staten Island, N.Y. until Windsor purchased the vehicle seven years later.
Enwin, the City of Windsor and the Greater Essex County District School Board collaborated with the intention of highlighting the heritage while it is undergoing a $750,000 restoration.
