Strike in Jameison Union
Employees at Jamieson Laboratories are back on strike.
Unifor Local 195 and management struck a tentative deal on Friday, but workers voted it down over the weekend sending workers back to the picket lines.
67 per cent of the 317 workers rejected the agreement during a ratification vote held at the Giovanni Caboto Club.
According to the union, employees voted it down because there wasn’t enough financial incentive in the tentative deal.
“People are having a difficult time making ends meet in this challenging economy. They would like an appropriate amount of this profit because they think the employer is making a lot of money,” according to Nabbout.
In terms of the next step, according to Nabbout, will involve the union contacting the employer to get back to the negotiating table “to try and address the issues being raised by our members.”
He continued, “We have to respect our members.”
Since February 1, over 317 employees of Jamieson Laboratories who are members of Unifor Local 195 have been on strike.
