College students are saying there are many issues when it comes to parking at St. Clair College’s campuses.

Psychology student, Kassem Bazzi, 19, said it is annoying to find a parking spot.

“It is hard finding a parking spot, especially in the morning. It’s not fair at all. We’re paying all that money and we don’t get a parking spot for sure,” said Bazzi.

Bazzi said not finding a parking spot before class causes many issues.

“The issue with parking is I have to wait for people to leave school so I can take a parking spot which makes me late to class,” said Bazzi. “Sometimes, I would have to park in the visitors parking and pay more money than I already do or possibly get a ticket for parking in the wrong spot.”

Although there is nothing Bazzi can do about the problem he said one solution would be to sell only enough parking tickets to the amount of parking spots they have at the main campus.

St. Clair college student studying community and justice services Morgan Johnson, 19, said the barrier arm is usually broken and the handle for the doors as well. She has to take the elevator which doesn’t work at times. As a result she has to walk through the entire building to get to class.

“I don’t think it’s fair at all,” said Johnson. “It’s just that we can’t find a parking spot, but we are also paying for stuff that is broken.”

Johnson said it is not fair how the downtown campus pays $35 per month while at the main campus they pay $90 a semester.

“We should have the same rule as the main campus when it comes to paying for parking passes but I know they struggle with parking there too,” Johnson said.

With the new University of Windsor building for School of Social Work and the Centre for Executive and Professional Education opening downtown, Johnson said they should come up with a better solution to the parking problems.

“I think they should buy more land and make a huge parking garage for college students and university students. They should make a system that works for everyone,” Johnson said.

If you have any concerns regarding parking, you can contact the St. Clair College parking office at (519-972-2735).
