Both local and international students from St. Clair College are missing classes because the buses are showing up late to pick them up.

Transportation for students to school include driving, carpooling or taking the bus. But unreliable options can make attending school a struggle.

An international student studying at the main campus, Mayank Patel said he is frequently late due to the buses.

“Sometimes the bus come at 10:50 a.m. when it is supposed to come at 10:40 a.m.,” said Patel.

Another problem is sometimes the buses are full which means that students have to wait for another. Students also have trouble paying $66 for a whole month, especially since there is no options to buy a six month or one year pass for a discounted price.

Head of Windsor Transit, Pat Delmar, said there are many reasons behind buses being late, an increase in students could be a leading cause. St Clair College has seen an increase in enrollment in previous years, especially in international students.

Delmar said he believes that transit needs more funding to assist in making sure routes are covered more frequently.

“Transit only covers 50 per cent of the cost, the other 50 per cent tax payers dollars. When a big change happens I have to go the to city of Windsor and ask for more money,” said Delmar.

Delmar said Windsor Transit is working on ways to incorporate new payment methods for anyone who uses a monthly pass.
