Taking ‘Twisters’ for a Spin
A new blockbuster has roared into theatres taking moviegoers by storm.
Twisters revolves around Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar-Jones) who is recruited by her friend Javi (Anthony Ramos) to help chase Tornadoes. But once out in field they encounter Tyler Owens (Glen Powell) known as the ‘Tornado wrangler’ and his team who are doing it for the YouTube fame.
I got to say, I liked the movie for its good story telling, visuals and character development. However, I will say that there were several missed opportunities such as the movie theatre scene. It would have been surreal if they showed a scene from the original Twister on the big screen. Think about the parallels – we are watching a movie about twisters watching them watch a movie about tornadoes.
Second, when it comes to the characters Tyler is such a punch-able character, but he does mellow out and decides to help Kate finish off her dream. The mom should have been Dr. Jo Harding (Helen Hunt), think about how extra great that would have made it, none the less Maura Tierney did a great job and let’s be real she brought the best mom shaming in movie history.
Third, I do want to mention the twisters they showed looked realistic and kept you on the edge of your seat. However, I do believe that the ones used in the first film were more impressive.
One of the greatest disappointments of the film is there were no cows, though there was a chicken. I don’t care about the chicken, they belong in a bucket from KFC, not in a new twister’s movie.
In summery, this film was high energy and did not fail to keep you on the edge of your seat, great character development Tyler going from an A-hole to a decent human being tornadoes were realistic however far more impressive in the first film and there were no cows.
All in all 3/5 Z’s.
