The Hollywood Vampires
The Hollywood Vampires is a name that hasn’t been heard since the ‘70s, but it is back.
The iconic heavy metal artist Alice Cooper has started a new band with actor Johnny Depp and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry called The Hollywood Vampires. The original Hollywood Vampires was a celebrity drinking club Cooper founded in the ‘70s. Some of the members included The Beatles’ John Lennon and Ringo Starr, The Who’s Keith Moon and the Monkees’ Micky Dolenz.
The club is not back seeing how some members have died, the rest are in their seventies and Cooper has been sober since 1982, but there is a new band. They have collaborated with other artists and put out an album together featuring covers of old rock songs and have announced their tour dates.
Windsorite Lauren Malcom, 23, says having someone like Depp collaborating with Cooper might spark someone’s musical interest and have them check out new music if they are interested enough.
However some people feel that with Cooper being out of the spot light for so long he won’t receive much attention from today’s youth.
“I don’t think people like Alice Cooper or musicians that haven’t been active in several years have much of an effect on our generation than bands that have continually been active like Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters,” said 21-year-old Windsor resident Ian Scott.
Having people like Cooper continuing to make music helps local music scenes like Windsor and helps give local musicians inspiration to see people who have been around so long still making music.
“You see great bands and artists that never stopped playing like Alice Cooper, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, The Who and AC/DC who have literally never stopped making music their entire lives and are always playing shows,” said Robbie Cervi, drummer in the local band Huttch. “Deep down they just love playing shows and writing music, for true musicians, music never leaves you.”
When artists collaborate and work together, fans of both artists come together as well. Cervi says he thinks Depp fans will become Cooper fans and possibly make them even bigger music fans than they were before.
“I know for sure Johnny Depp fans will go to his shows with Alice Cooper and then they will be curious and check out Alice’s huge repertoire of music,” said Cervi.
The band is working with some of the most iconic musicians of this generation including Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl and Slash, The Hollywood Vampires are likely to be a legendary cover group.
