E-learning mandate raises eyebrows

Online learning has been an option for more than decade – but as of last week, the Ontario government has made it mandatory.
The announcement was made last week by Queen’s Park, but it is still unclear exactly what the course selection will look like.
Some have concerns regarding the online courses and how they will be available for those with disabilities. Another area of worry for some is the possible lack of high speed internet in rural areas which could hinder online learning.
The province’s website acknowledges some students who have difficulty learning in traditional environments may struggle, but claims those who test high have fewer problems.
In the last school year there was 1,158 online learning courses taken by Ontario high school students.
