St. Clair defeated George Brown in the OCAA women’s basketball playoffs on Saturday to punch their ticket to the OCAA semi-finals.

St. Clair won by a score of 87-53.

The Saints took the first quarter 25-16 and maintained their lead in the second quarter. By half time, the score was 46-30. In the third quarter, the Saints picked up the pace and scored 30 points which increased the point differential dramatically.

”It kind of just happened but we always have a plan when we go out to, you know, put the pedal down and we want to go with that and limit their points,” said Saints leading scorer Kaitlyn Overeem. “So that kind of happened but we were dialed in today.”

In the final quarter, George Brown managed to score 12 points against 11 for the Saints but it didn’t matter as they had a huge lead of 34 points.

Overeem scored 34 points and for George Brown, 16 points from Jasmine Davis.

“So we were ready to go with this game and credit it to the kids’ great energy to the game,” said Saints head coach Andy Kiss. “We really shot the ball well for a stretch there in that third quarter to open it up. And, you know, I tip my hat to the kids for being focused and executing the game plan.”

“We have discovered our next opponent, which is Algonquin College, the real good team on the east side,” he added. “We’ll stick to our process. We’ll scout them hard, and we’ll prepare for them. But our team has goals and we’re on the way.”

The semi-final will be played on March 2 at Lambton Cestar Group Athletics & Fitness Complex with St. Clair taking on Algonquin.
