NHL

The Detroit Red Wings raised their record to 6-2 on Thursday night when they slid by the St. Louis Blues with a 2-1 win at the Scottrade Centre. Frans Nielsen scored a shorthanded goal in the second period and the Wings were able to take things to a shootout and after eight rounds Henrik Zetterberg scored to end the game.

The Toronto Maple Leafs went toe-to-toe with the Florida Panthers Thursday night at the Air Canada Centre. The Maple Leafs kept their cool and with the help of Tyler Bozak’s two goals and managed to pull off a 3-2 win against the Panthers.

MLB

The Chicago Cubs tied up the series with the Cleveland Indians in the fight for the World Series. The Cubs beat the Indians 5-1 on Wednesday night, bringing the series record to a 1-1 tie. The teams are set to play again at 8:00 p.m. tonight with Kyle Hendricks starting for the Cubs and Josh Tomlin starting for the Indians.

NFL

The Jacksonville Jaguars played the Tennessee Titans on Thursday night at LP Field. The game started off slow with only a field goal for the Titans in the first quarter but the flood gates opened up in the second. The Titans scored 24 points leading the Jaguars 27-0 at halftime. The Jaguars were able to hold the Titans to only six points in the third, scored eight for themselves and then another 14 points in the fourth but was not enough for the Jaguars. The Titans ended the night winning 36-22 taking them to a 4-4 record and leaving the Jaguars at 2-6.

Spitfires

The Spitfires tore through their West Division rivals the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds with a 5-2 win on Thursday night at the WFCU Centre. The Spitfires are preparing to face the North Bay Batallion on Saturday night.

Lancers

The Lancers football season was cut short at Alumni Field last Saturday when the Laurier Golden Hawks were in town. The Lancers lost to the Golden Hawks 38-9 giving Windsor a 2-6 record which places them just outside of the OUA playoffs.

The Windsor Lancers men’s soccer team played the McMaster Mauraders on Wednesday night in the first round of the OUA soccer playoffs. The Lancers fell short losing 4-0 and ending their season.

The Windsor Lancers women’s soccer team played the McMaster Mauraders on Wednesday as well. This time the women were able to pull away with a win advancing them to the OUA playoff quarter-finals. They are due to play the top seeded York Lions this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in Toronto.
