TIFF calls off, “Russians at War” due to notable threats
The Toronto International Film Festival has paused upcoming screenings of the documentary “Russians at War” due to high threats to the safety of festival guests, staff and volunteers.
The film, which follows Russian soldiers on the front lines of the war in Ukraine, faced criticism for allegedly being and using propaganda.
TIFF also received pressure from Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland and Ukrainian officials to cancel the screenings. This decision marks an unusual move for the festival.
