A Windsor man faces numerous charges after fresh snow helped police track a stolen car.

Windsor Police said the vehicle was stolen last week in the 500 block of Hall Ave.. The owner told patrol officers he had left it locked and  running to warm up – something police advise should only be done “properly and safely.”

By following the trail left in the snow, police were able to track the car which was driving in a manner that was “unreasonable and dangerous” for the road conditions. Within three hours, they found the vehicle in the 3600 block of Riverside Drive East and arrested a man.

Christopher Dauphin, 28, of Windsor is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property under $5000, mischief under $5000, possession of break-in tools and dangerous driving.
