Top three summer reads
It is that time of year again – school. Time to get into the routine of work and little sleep. It is also a time where our busy schedules tend to get in the way of things we love most, such as reading. Fear not, next week you will get tips on how to balance busy lives with precious reading time.
Summer was a great reading period, not necessarily for the number of books read, but for the quality of the books. Here are my top three books from this summer.
The Lying Game by Ruth Ware (4 out of 5 stars)
Published in July 2017, this book was sent to me by Simon and Schuster Canada. If you are looking for a combination of mystery, thriller and suspense, then this book is for you. Ware has a way of making the reader think they know what is going to happen, then throws a fork in the road, halting the reader’s train of thought. It is easy to get captured in the plot as a group of girls create their own “lying game” which follows them into their adult lives. What was once taken too far now comes back to haunt them. Remember when your parents told you to never tell lies? Listen.
Note to Self by Connor Franta (5 out of 5 stars)
This is one book I would recommend to anyone. If you are at a low point in your life, if you feel unhappy or are experiencing anxiety and stress, then you should definitely read this memoir. Note to Self is from Franta’s perspective on how he coped with growing up. He touches upon serious subject matters such as bullying, puberty and self discovery. If you need to feel inspired, crack the spine of this book and you will not be disappointed.
Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon (5 out of 5 stars)
Short, sweet and simple are three words used to describe this book. Though it was a fast and easy young adult read, it does not lack interesting characters, a captivating plot or brilliant writing. If romance is your genre then you should, without a doubt, read this book. Yoon finds a way to make you fall in love with the main characters Maddy and Olly, all the while breaking your heart at the same time. Bring out the Kleenex.
