Windsor Flying Club gives would-be pilots a hand
By Barry Hazlehurst
In honour of its 75th anniversary, The Windsor Flying Club is raising funds to help two aspiring pilots get their Commercial Pilot Licenses – necessary to fly for Canadian airline companies.
The Windsor Flying Club kicked their fundraising efforts off by hosting a 1940’s style Hollywood Canteen Fundraiser on Saturday at the Canadian Historical Aircraft Association located at the Windsor Airport.
The costs involved in becoming a commercial pilot can run as high as $35,000. Without a government loan for students, the designation can be out of reach for many due to the dollars involved (cockpit time costs as much as $200 per hour).
The fundraiser, catered by Just Jeff’s Refreshments by Walkerville Catering, featured the Ironic Tonic Jazz Band and drew club members dressed in 1940’s era attire.
Tickets for the dinner and entertainment were $65 per person or $120 for two people.
