Uber comes to Windsor
Story By Sean Previl
Uber has arrived in Windsor.
The ride-sharing program started operating at 3 p.m. Nov. 12.
Mayor Drew Dilkens, who has been supportive in bringing the service to the city, said he was not surprised the service opened quickly.
“Uber is working at the speed of technology and they’re lightning fast the way they’re working,” said Dilkens.
“It was just a matter of time before they started here. No one would have predicted it would be in three, three-and-a-half weeks, but that’s the scenario that has happened and played out.”
In order for residents to become Uber drivers, they must get a national criminal background check and have a driver’s motor vehicle screening done.
New Uber driver Brian Price said when people get in his car, he understands his responsibilities of providing both safety and comfort.
“At the end of the day you want to be able to make sure that you keep attention to what’s going on both in the car and outside of the car and be as courteous as humanly possible,” said Price.
People can download the app on the Apple Store or Google Play. If Windsorites want to use the service they have to register and provide either credit card information or a Paypal account as the service does not accept cash.
