An after-school mental math program for children aged 4-13 is opening a new location in Windsor.
The UCMAS Abacus Mental Math Program is a globally recognized and scientifically proven after-school program that improves children’s brain development. UCMAS stands for the Universal Concept of Mental Arithmetic System.
“We want to spread the word in the community and let the parents know about our UCMAS Mental Math Abacus Program which enhances the math skills for young children and improves their focus, concentration and brain capabilities,” said UCMAS Canada’s Associate Technical Vice President Pooja Sundar.
“We have around 93 locations in North America; this is our third location in Windsor.”
The program teaches children to solve math equations using Abacus beads. The program started in Canada in 2004.
“We heard about it from friends that have kids who are enrolled in the program,” said Hoa Du, one of the parents who attended the UCMAS open house.
“They truly like the program, they’ve seen their kids excel in math. I think they’re actually two levels beyond their grade, so it got us interested.”
The new spot for UCMAS is located at 3335 Banwell Rd. and classes will run from Tuesdays through to Saturdays.
