Universal Children’s Day was celebrated at Windsor’s family aquatic complex on Nov. 15.

Jennifer Knights, manager of the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre, Adventure Bay Family Water Park and aquatic services has been working at the centre for 5 years.

“We have run this event for several years and held it this year on Nov. 15 as it was a P.A day for the schools,” said Knights.

Universal Children’s Day is observed worldwide on an annual basis on Nov. 20 to improve children’s welfare, promote international togetherness and raise awareness among children worldwide, according to the United Nations.

“I oversee the operation of the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre, Adventure Bay, the other indoor aquatic facilities (Adie Knox Herman, Gino and Liz Marcus, WFCU Centre Community Pool), six outdoor pools and Sandpoint Beach,” said Knights.

Michael Chantler, assistant manager of the park has worked for the City of Windsor for the past five years.

“We offered discount admission to the water park, $5 for guests 12 and under, $10 for guests over 12 and free for children three and under. The health expo was free of charge,” said Chantler.

The concession stand was open and was selling snacks. There were around 1300 guests attend for the water park, and more for the health expo.

Kelly Steele has been the coordinator of programming and guest services for one year. She was the lead on-site organizer for the event.

“We had a Health Expo in our Atrium featuring presentations by the Canadian Mental Health Association and representatives from Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare/Changing Lives Together Foundation, Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation, Allstate Insurance, the Windsor Express, Windsor Essex Swim Team, Windsor Aquatic Club,” said Steele.

The event featured activities, information booths and educational opportunities, all with the aim of children’s health and well-being.
