UWindsor’s renovated Armouries building now officially opened
The School of Creative Arts at the University of Windsor is finally renovated fully and officially opened for public viewing.
Students began using the downtown building in January, but the official grand opening was delayed until this past week because of ongoing renovations.
The University of Windsor’s Armouries building was completely redesigned. The Essex-Kent Scottish Regiment previously owned the building back in the year 1900. The transformation of building cost a whopping $60 million.
Students and faculty fill in the 66,000- square-foot building.
Student Amanda Dupuis says the new building is different from its older counterpart in many ways.
“The new layout and architecture really gives the building new wonderful character, but also has some of the old-style touch within it still,” said Dupuis.
Dupuis said she feels lucky to be a part of the first class in the building and finds the rock wall structure in the basement beautiful.
Approximately 500 students and faculty members share the building.
Bethany Russell, a music student, said the new building is amazing and very different from the older building.
“It’s a world different from the old building as it was actually created for arts,” said Russell. “There’s no mold, no bugs, and no disgusting smells, just a beautiful space to create art.”
