Virtual Classes: One Year Later
On March 23 2020, St. Clair College moved all classes online for the remainder of the winter semester due to COVID-19.
More than a year later, many of the courses offered at the college are still taught online. Justina Ciaciarello, the program coordinator of the Business Administration Marketing program, has been teaching classes online since last year. For Ciaciarello, this has presented some challenges.
“I used to do a big networking project where students would network with each other in the classroom, so I had to rethink how we would be able to do that in an online format,” said Ciaciarello.
Brandon Sherlock is a 23-year-old student in his third year of the Business Administration Information Communication Technology program. For Sherlock, there have been some benefits that come with learning online.
“Asynchronous learning has made it better to do tests or assignments when they work best for me. If I need to work on a day when I have class, I can skip the class and watch the recorded lecture, and I won’t miss much,” said Sherlock.
For programs that still have classes in-person, students, teachers and staff are required to complete the COVID-19 questionnaire before reporting on campus.
