WFCU Centre celebrates 10-year anniversary

Sports fans can look forward to special prices for Windsor Spitfire and Express tickets as part of the WFCU Centre’s 10th-anniversary celebrations.
Free skating and swimming were also announced in honour of the east-end arena that Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens called one of the best facilities of its kind.
“We build these facilities for you. We don’t build them for sports tourism,” said Dilkens. “We build them for the people who live in our community because we deserve good facilities.”
The WFCU Centre replaced the aging Windsor Arena in 2008, ending “The Barn’s” 84-year-run. The Windsor Spitfires call the 6,500-seat venue home. It has hosted big-ticket entertainers like Elton John and Neil Young and Crazy Horse.
Dilkens said the WFCU Centre was a great place for kids to train and Mac Turner, 16, a WFCU Centre employee, said it was a great place to play hockey.
“I have been playing at the WFCU Centre since I was six years old,” said Turner.
The celebration featured games, sweets and live music from the local all-kids band, Leave Those Kids Alone.
The Spitfires celebrated the event in style, beating the Barrie Colts 4-3.
