Why people read their horoscope

In an unscientific survey conducted by the MediaPlex, 80 per cent of people said they read their horoscopes.

Gemima Pedro, a part-time cleaner, said she believes in horoscopes.

“I think as long as people study horoscopes they’re always relevant,” said Pedro. “It’s not just about studying them but it’s about people believing in them too. If people are believing them all the time, then they’re relevant to those people, and there’s many things that science hasn’t proven and many beliefs that people have that people don’t let science define and astrology is one of them.”

Pedro also knows sometimes people check their horoscope just for fun so it’s hard to tell if people actually believe in them or if they do it for fun.

Of the 80 per cent of people who said they check their horoscope, 10 per cent of people said they read them frequently.

“I think people check them so they have an idea about how their day, week or month will pan out,” said Pedro. “They may also find it as motivation for good things to happen and good ways to avoid other negative situations. I think some people check them just to see what life thinks they might deal with and people who do it for fun are often surprised at their accuracy.”

“I like to know more about myself and others,” said Aziz. “They can know more about themselves, that’s why they check their horoscopes.”

According to the survey, 65 per cent of people said they only occasionally check their horoscopes.

Fadi Polus reads horoscopes for a living and does tarot cards at home.

“I started getting into astrology when I was in high school. Astrology became a bonding experience with my friends and I as we’d talk about our signs and share what we think about it. As I got older, I discovered a deeper side to astrology,” said Polus. “After doing research and learning about it more, I realized it’s something I enjoy learning about, not just because of what it stands for but the history of astrologers and how they used the stars and celestial bodies to describe prophesy and create meaning behind the coincidental alignments that they’ve experienced.”

Polus said he is drawn to the truth past astrologers lived by and has ended up gaining knowledge on astrology and the way they believed it worked.

“The way people feel about their progress is most of the time positive because anything I offer comes from a place of spreading positivity and being lighthearted about the service you’re receiving,” said Polus. “My personal progress comes from the experience that I get from what I offer to people, and the feedback is always very validating.”

He spends an unaccounted amount of time expanding his knowledge as part of it comes from experience. He tries to dedicate a specific amount of time to read and research and he usually spends an hour or two with each client.
