WIFF, Canada’s second largest film festival, about to kick off its 13th year in Windsor
In its 13th year, the Windsor International Film Festival, a nonprofit cultural organization, has gained a reputation for showing and celebrating film from Canada and around the world.
“This is the second largest film festival in Canada,” said Ian Wood, managing director of WIFF.
This year’s festival, which runs Oct. 30 to Nov. 5, will feature 113 films from more than 20 countries.
Lots of different genres and foreign-language films will be shown at the film festival, plus there will be a midnight madness showing (late night showings on Friday and Saturday nights). One of these late nights will be the Rocky Horror Picture Show and another will be The Room.
“It’s a really, really great mix of movies. That’s going to be really exciting as well and open up more showing options,” said Wood, adding WIFF will also feature some virtual reality fun and other innovative things for film buffs.
Some of the movies he is excited for this year are Borg McEnroe featuring Shia LeBeouf and Marjorie Prime featuring Geena Davis, Jon Ham and Lois Smith.
He also mentioned there will be fun, taking a script originally performed by an all-male cast and putting a twist on it by performing it live with an all-female cast.
The Princess Bride will show in its 30th anniversary and a re-touched version of Steven Spielberg’s ET is showing in its 35th anniversary.
“It’s a really exciting lineup, we’re really excited,” said Wood.
The box office opens on Oct. 23, but tickets are already on sale through the WIFF website and you can also buy them from Windsor Film Festival app. You can buy individual tickets or become a pass holder for $195 to see as many as you want.
