The Windsor Express won their fourth game of the season while supporting an important cause.
In a rematch against the Sudbury 5 on Wednesday, the Express had a purple game day, where players wore purple socks and fans wore purple clothing in recognition of women’s abuse prevention month.
After the lighting of the tree in a city ceremony earlier this month, the Express partnered with Hiatus House and Shine the Light on Women’s Abuse to bring awareness to the cause.
Karry Plaskitt from Hiatus House praised the Express for their support.
“We’re raising awareness and engaging the community and ending violence against women,” said Plaskitt. “We did that by asking people to wear purple scarves, ties, and hats.”
Hiatus House also had a booth selling merchandise like purple scarves and pins at the WFCU Centre in front of the entrance to the game.
Eva Kratochvil, this year’s Shine the Light honorary, said Hiatus House and Shine the Light will campaign year-round against domestic violence.
“We still carry on the conversations, we need the shelters all year round, not just in November,” said Kratochvil.
Although the month of November is over, Shine the Light and the Hiatus House plan to continue to push their initiative and spread the word going into December.
