Windsor Police alert residents to ‘Lock It or Lose It’
Windsor Police is looking to remind the community to “Lock It or Lose It,” when it comes to their valuables during this holiday shopping season.
As per the report provided by Windsor Police, they have a few suggestions regarding how to best prevent becoming a victim of theft:
- Never leave a running vehicle unattended.
- Lock your doors.
- Roll up your vehicle’s windows.
- Keep valuables / parcels /shopping purchases out of sight.
- Keep your registration and proof of insurance in your wallet or purse, not in the glove box.
- Pocket your keys.
- At night, or during extended parking periods, always park in a well-lit area.
Specific valuables are mentioned as most important to keep safe in your vehicle, including laptops, GPS monitoring systems, shopping bags, money and credit cards, as they serve as the most sought-after items by potential thieves.
The province-wide crime-prevention program is endorsed by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) and urges citizens to keep valuables out-of-sight.
