Windsor police: lock it or lose it this holiday season
During the holiday season, people tend to shop a lot for friends, family and or themselves – much more than during any other time of the year.
And thieves know it.
The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police have endorsed a campaign called “Lock it or Lose it” to remind shoppers to protect their belongings.
“This campaign has been going on for the past several years and the only reason is to create awareness among the public to keep their belongings safe by locking their cars, putting items safe in trunk and parking at safe places while leaving the car unattended,” said Windsor Sgt. Steve Betteridge.
Betteridge said police are happy to take part in this campaign.
“Windsor police is proud to participate and help people by creating awareness about the possible thefts around and providing the best possible ways to prevent them,” said Betteridge.
Drivers should make sure to keep their vehicles locked and keep their belongings in the trunk in order to avoid any theft, he said.
Officers stopped Nov. 23 at the Canadian Tire on Windsor’s east side, warning shoppers as part of the awareness campaign.
Victims are asked to report any theft to Windsor Police as soon as possible.
