Windsor Police make more than 80 arrests downtown in one month
Windsor police arrested more than 80 suspects in one month by stepping up enforcement in downtown Windsor.
Between Oct. 8 and Nov. 6, police executed 29 arrest warrants for drug-related crimes and homicides and returned suspects to face charges in other jurisdictions. Police laid more than 125 criminal code and drug charges. All told, there were 308 downtown “interactions” between police and the public during that time frame.
Mayor Drew Dilkens said the Windsor Police Services Board is seeking a 6.4 percent budget increase to hire more officers to help patrol the downtown core.
If approved, the budget will jump from $83,943,525 this year to $89,292,971 in the new year.
According to Statistics Canada data, the crime rate rose six percent from 2016 to 2017.
