Windsor Spitfires host annual Family Day Hockey game
Windsor Spitfires fans are celebrating a Family Day win and once again being able to attend live hockey games.
Ever since the lifting of pandemic restrictions both hockey fans and players have been trying to adjust and get back to normal.
Windsor Spitfires forward, Ethan Miedema, 16, originally from Cobourg, ON said even though he’s away from his hometown, he still tries to meet with his family at least once a month.
“My Family lives four and a half hours away so it’s kind of hard,” said Miedema. “It’s great that they come down here monthly and even the odd weekends. It is really good to see them when I can.”
Even though some families have been separated from each other, some small businesses and even sporting venues are trying to help them with family separations.
Miedema said although many people are separated, he hopes he entertained the families who were present at the game.
“I know that some of the other guys have their families down here and everyone is doing their stretches, shower and going to see them,” said Miedema. “It’s after Christmas and sometimes halfway through the season you’re going home so it’s great for everyone to wake up with their families again.”
Although many stores and malls were closed during Family Day, places like The Essex Recreation Complex, The Atlas Tube Centre, Colasanti’s Tropical Gardens and Charles Clark Square in Windsor were all offering fun activities for families.
Despite many families being separated during this phase of the pandemic, they were still able to connect with each other on Family Day both virtually and in person.
