Earth Hour will be celebrated as an event for the second time in Windsor.

Earth Hour started in Sydney, Australia in 2007. It is a movement to help show awareness for environmental issues such as climate change. In 2015 Earth Hour became the world’s biggest environmental movement.

The city of Windsor is hosting its second Earth Hour event on March 24. The event is taking place from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m at Charles Clark Square.

Kelsey Williams, the supervisor of environmental stability coordinator for the City of Windsor said she would love to see as many people as possible come to the event.

“We are trying to start a conversation,” said Williams. “If you can’t come out and take part, taking part from home is also a great way to take part.”

There are several booths and events happening during the event. One of the booths is City Cycling.

Ben Baillargeon, an employee of City Cycling said Caesars Windsor directly contacted them and this is the first year the company has taken part in the event.

“We are going to be there to promote cycling and healthier living,” said Baillargeon.

Baillargeon also said if he could personally change one thing wrong with the world he would want to see less carbon emissions, less cars and more bikes.

“Be nice to see everyone out there and make the event more well known in the city,” said Baillargeon.

According to the City of Windsor the event will have music from Stiletto Fire Acoustic Duo, Pound Cardio Jam Session with Sue Sanity Fitness, Earth Hour pledge and several other fun activities at the event. It is presented by Caesars Windsor Cares Code Green and ENWIN Utilities and has been sponsored by local radio station AM800.

“We should all treat our Earth better since we only have one and we should all take necessary steps so it’s good for future generations,” said Baillargeon.
