Windsor unemployment among the highest in Ontario
Despite a steady unemployment rate of 5.2 per cent in Ontario, Windsor saw a historic high of 8.4 per cent.
According to Statistics Canada, after Northern Ontario, Windsor has the highest rate of joblessness in the province for January 2019.
The recent report showed the unemployment rate in Windsor-Sarnia jumped from 4.9 per cent to 7 per cent in a year. In 2019, the region had 259,779 people employed, with more than 8,000 job vacancies.
In January, employment gains were observed in Quebec, Manitoba, and New Brunswick. Fewer people were employed in Alberta, while there were minor fluctuations in the other provinces. The report also mentioned that health care and social assistance were the sectors where the employment declined for this month.
