Windsor’s drinking water receives perfect rating from Ontario Environment Ministry
The Windsor Utilities Commission (WUC) announced that the city’s drinking water system had received the best rating available from Ontario’s Environment Ministry this Wednesday.
According to media release, the WUC and ENWIN were evaluated for compliance with regulated water testing requirements as part of an annual inspection in December.
Windsor’s drinking water was evaluated based on a number of criteria, including management of the drinking water system, as well as commitment to asset replacement.
Windsor also won the best-tasting water for the third year in 2016.
Garry Rossi, vice president of Water Operations with ENWIN Utilities said they use a process called ozonation to clean their water.
“The ozone took a different part of the process out, which provides a better taste to the water and also gets rid of a lot of the organic or raw water smell to the water you would get from the tap,” he said.
Rossi said people take turning on that tap for granted and having that high-quality water available.
“Our employees’ ability… they continually work hard to make sure that water is always there. Highest quality, best tasting and delivered uninterruptedly,” said Rossi.
Kylee Rogers, an 18-year-old Windsor resident, said she does not think the quality of Windsor’s water is truly better than the rest.
She said she does not like the taste, adding the water is “really hard.”
The Ministry has now recognized ENWIN’s commitment to ensuring the quality, safety and reliability of Windsor’s drinking water for the eighth consecutive year.
