Windsor’s new budget plan
A new capital plan for 2018 has been approved by Windsor city council.
The plan allocates $664 million for capital spending in a six-year capital plan. This plan has been extended by a year, since the capital plan used to span five years. The mayor is working towards adding a year every year, eventually hoping to reach the 10-year provincial standard.
Roads and sewers will take up 63 per cent of the budget this year, with potholes and concrete repairs being top priority.
Mayor Drew Dilkens said Windsorites shouldn’t expect a significant tax hike to pay for the budget.
“The really good news here…is that when we added (everything) together we got down to a percent increase of less than one per cent,” said Dilkens.
The operating budget was approved Monday with a 0.9 per cent tax increase.
